Halloween has always been my favorite holiday. There are costumes, free candy, and awesome decorations. Best of all you get to pretend that the things that go bump in the night are real and you could be walking among them on dark streets between houses. So to help get you in the mood this year here is my top 10 Witchy Romances for Halloween. Most of them are series, some of them are more in the cozy genre than romance, but all of them have witches that you will want to be your new BWFF (Best Witchy Friend Forever!).
It is no secret that paranormal romances are my favorites. When I started reading books again ten years ago I was going through a divorce and needed a way to escape. One of the first series I read was the Aisling Gray Series. Then I found HP Mallory. Now a couple thousand books later this is the list of books and series that I can’t stop rereading. Well the ones with witches in them at any rate.

Aisling Grey Series by Katie MacAlister
This four book series starts with a woman taking a trip to deliver a package. She stumbles into the supernatural world and her whole life changes. She falls for a hot wyvern who just happens to be her mate. Over the course of four books she gets into some hilarious trouble and takes on a lot of different roles. The series checks off so many paranormal categories I can’t do it justice. So here is the book blurb for the fourth book. It will tell you everything you need to know.
The dragon of my dreams—uber-sexy Drake Vireo, wyvern of the green dragons—has finally decided to make an honest woman of me. That is, if we ever make it to the wedding at the same time! Being left at the altar may have cooled my jets, but not my passion…a good thing when Drake disappears and it’s up to me to find him.
Most brides just have in-laws to worry about. Me? I have warring dragons, ticked-off demon lords, eternal damnation, and a mage who wants to challenge me for an otherworldly position I don’t even want. At least Jim, my doggie-demon, is always at my side. He’s never let me down—yet…
Jolie Wilkens Series by HP Mallory
This five book series is centered on a woman in Los Angeles. She doesn’t know she is a witch (with the power to reanimate the dead) until a sexy warlock finds her and hires her to solve a murder for his ghost client. The only draw back to the series is from the romance point of view. There is no happily ever after at the end of each book. She goes back and forth between the warlock and the vampire until the end. I have to include it in the witch list because I love HP Mallory’s writing. She has several series and I have yet to find one that I don’t like.
Wisteria Witches Series by Angela Pepper
This six book series is considered a cozy witch series. There is flirting and what not but the stories are on the family and the troubles they get into. Zara, her daughter Zoey, her aunt Zinna, and her parents who show up in later books looking to get back into her life. I love Zara’s wit and personality. If I could have a witchy mom friend it would be her. It never hurts there is a hunky werewolf next door who tries really hard not to get involved with her. There are few things that would tie a mother and daughter together than both turning into witches on Zoey’s 16th birthday – with no knowledge of witchcraft! Look for the real estate agent – your gonna die laughing.
Jane Madison Series by Mindy Klasky
This five book series is another funny one. The center of the stories is Jane, a librarian who finds her magical abilities by accident. Instead of getting a raise at work they tell her that she can move into a little cottage on the library grounds rent free. While cleaning it out she discovers a secret room filled with magic books. How does she find out she can do magic? She gets her a talking familiar. The romance in these books is drawn out through out the series, but the fun is in every one of them. These books are perfect if you want to zone out while your on the train to work or stuck waiting on your kids during practice.
Magic and Mixology Mystery Series by Gina Lemanna
This five book series is another cozy witch series. The reason it is on this list is because the author creates an entire island of nothing but witches hiding in north America. Lily grows up in the human world. A random ‘fun quiz’ her assistant tells her about alerts her real family that she is ready to claim her spot on the island. Once she gets there she is made the magic mixologist for the whole island. She has to learn magic, how to run a bar, and most of all how to survive her crazy family. Not going to lie the romance part drives me batty but the witch part I love. If I remember right all the books are at the sweet level. There might be some kissing and flirting but anything serious fades to black.
50 Ways to Hex Your Lover by Linda Wisdom
This is novel is a stand alone, but worth the read. Jazz is a witch who is always finding some kind of trouble. Nick is a vampire cop she has been seeing off and on for the last 300 years or so. I wish this book was made into a series just for the supporting characters. Sure the boss, the ghost, and the friends are awesome, but the bunny slippers make me want to try and enchant a pair for myself – or at least buy a pair and hope my german shepherds don’t kill them as soon as they are out of the box. This book is a fun read I didn’t want to put down. I always finish it in an afternoon.
The Unfortunate Miss Fortunes by Jennifer Cruise, Eileen Dreyer, & Anne Stuart
This is a standalone that is a bit different. I found it because my favorite author ever – Jennifer Cruise helped write it. I am not sure how the three authors divided up writing the story but the end result is one of my favorite books. I read it at least once a year when I am having a bad day. The story is about three sisters who are powerful witches but have to hide thier magic. They each get a great love while working through the family drama and finding thier own happily ever afters. Fun fact – after reading this book I was inspired by Mare’s crazy lists and started making my own in a notebook – but for novels of course. It is where I get these fun roundups from.
The Hallows Series by Kim Harrison
This series has thirteen books in it! The center of the story is Rachel – a witch bounty hunter in Cincinnati (I can honestly say these are the only books I have found based here!). In the series witches, vamps and all the things that go bump in the night are out in the open and walking among the humans. There are romance bits sprinkled throughout the series and you are going to think you will know who she will end up with but you might be wrong. This series is a little darker than the others but still has funny moments – most of which involve Jinx.
The Drake Sisters Series by Christine Feehan
This seven book series is going to rock your world. There are six sisters and each gets a book and romance of thier own. I am not going to lie book 6 about broke me. I found these books because I love her Dark series. (Those vamps know how to treat a woman and defend her with everything they have in them.) The sisters live in a sleepy town called Sea Haven. Like all of her books she develops all of her characters, even the supporting ones. The best of them is the Drake house – watch for it and you will love it. The series is so awesome she made a spin off series called Seahaven Sisters of the Heart. It has six books of it’s own. I haven’t read them yet but they are getting close to the top of my list.
Kate Daniels Series by Ilona Andrews
Some how this series ends up on every list that I make. It is one of my all time favorites. Kate is a witch mercenary working in post apocalypse Atlanta. Magic has broken the world and all kinds of mystical creatures are free in the world. The situations she gets in will scare the bejezus out of you. And when she finally gets together with Curran your toes are going to curl. He has been at the top of my book boy friends list since I started the series in 2011. Watch out for her dad though – if ever there was a girl with dad issues it is her.
Leave me a comment below and let me know your favorite witchy stories, I can always use another.
